Beatles songwriting Venn Diagram
For an exercise in data visualization, I mapped Beatles songwriting credits using a quadrivial Venn Diagram. While it’s true the band’s synergy can’t be parceled, I wanted to show where responsibility for the conception and songwriting of particular songs lay according to sources like Ian McDonald and Steve Turner, author of A Hard Day’s Write. Some songs were omitted simply because I ran out of space and some left off for problems of Venn-logistics (for instance, Paul and George share dual songwriting credits on “In Spite of All the Danger,” but the format could not accommodate this combination). Due to the ubiquity of the singular Lennon-McCartney credit, the true authorship of many songs are disputed. In general, I erred on the side of indicating collaboration when claims or evidence suggest it. Yes, I gave Ringo fractional credit for the title of "A Hard Day's Night." It's only fair.
